Since the first video camera appeared in the early 1960s—the “Porta pack“, the grandmother of the current camcorder—not only tourists and families but many artists have used the tool as a medium and support for their works. Pioneering figures like Nam June Paik and the Fluxus artist group (including Berliner Wolf Vostell) were extremely important in developing video as a contemporary art, and the genre has been gaining a more privileged place in the art world ever since. Nevertheless, we are still talking about a young art form which is why we decided to create VIDEOAKT, opening a space to authors who cultivate video. In the show we want to give a place both for emerging artists and for those who have consolidated their trajectory, revealing a wide variety of languages derived from the use of video.

We are fortunate to be collaborating with prestigious international organisations toward this effort, including VIDEOFEST -Festival of Video of San Francisco-, Anxious Image, Latin American Biennial of New Media, VIDEOARTWORLD, INTRANSITos and LiminalB, among others. Working together, we have opened up a venue for young artists who want show their work.

VideoAkt is an initiative of Irene Pascual, artist and director of the GlogauAIR art center in Berlin, and Angie Bonino, artist and independent curator of new media based in Barcelona.

The video art show will be realized in three simultaneous spaces during the weekend and will be enriched by the presence of curators of VIDEOARTWORLD, INTRANSITos and Liminal B, talking about their projects. There will be two nights with performance of Dj’s and Vj’s. We look forward to seeing you there!
